Lines of strong thunderstorms are moving west to east and will affect much of the area.

One line, located along a line extending from Rockland County to Central Westchester were located around 4 p.m., moving southeast at 20 miles per hour.

Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail are possible with these storms, the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Statement issued late Sunday afternoon, Aug. 4. The storms could also include heavy rain, thunder and lightning.

Locations impacted include Yonkers, Stamford, New Rochelle, White Plains, New City, Port Chester, Glen Cove, Ossining, Nanuet, Rye, Tarrytown, Mount Kisco, Dobbs Ferry, Nyack and Tappan, the weather service said.

Farther north, a separate line of strong storms originating in Orange County is moving west to east.

There is a chance for thunderstorms for the entire region until 9 p.m. Sunday.

Monday, Aug. 5 will be sunny with a high temperature in the low 80s.
